Using freeze panes to lock cells in place

Freezing panes locks certain cells in place while allowing other cells to be scrolled through, allowing you to view and edit large amounts of data while keeping the titles on screen.

To freeze panes

  1. Select the B3 cell to freeze rows one and two and column A.
  2. Click View > Freeze Panes > Freeze First Column/Top Row.
The frozen panes are marked by thin lines. The frozen cells (rows one and two and column A) are always displayed on screen even if you move over to other cells.
